This workshop delves into the nature of stress and the multifaceted ways it impacts our physical, emotional, and mental well-being. We will examine the distinction between stress and burnout, exploring how sustained stress can lead to feelings of hopelessness and professional cynicism. The session offers actionable strategies for immediate stress management, alongside self-care techniques both familiar and non-traditional. Additionally, we will discuss the ethical responsibilities surrounding self-care and work-life balance, concluding with relaxation methods like breathing exercises and guided imagery to navigate stress during challenging times.
Learning Objectives:
Understand the difference between stress and burnout
Identify their obligations for their own self care per their applicable Codes of Ethics
Identify 3 ways to manage stress immediately
Understand the impacts of stress on ourselves as helping professionals and, for some, as targeted groups
